One of the features we do here at Comic Impact is the cosplay girl (NO anime, manga, role-playing games just comics) of the month, that’s right hot girls dressing up like your favorite super- hero characters. This month we’re privileged to have Annaka as the Cosplay Girl of the Month
1-What is your name?
My name is Annaka.
2-How old are you?
I am 28 years old.
3-Do you read comics and if so, what are your favorite titles?
Yes, I absolutely love Comics and collecting! The titles I have read and love and these are just a few of them:
- Magneto: Age of Apocalypse
- Batman Adventures: Mad Love
- Magneto Not a Hero
- Dark Phoenix Saga
- Batman: A death in the Family
- Batman: The Killing Joke
- Jokers Five Way Revenge
- Detective Comics: The Laughing Fish
- The Joker: The Clown Prince of Time
- X-Men: Magneto Testament
Plus tons more!!! So many honestly.
4-What is your favorite comic book character?
This is extremely hard for me, seeing as I love them, but as you can see, I love reading about the Joker! I love the classic stories and it can be so twisting! I also of course love Magneto… The development of his stories, and I really love Jean Grey! Sorry, I really have a lot!
5-Who are your favorite artists or writers?
I love the art of Alex Grey, Neal Adams, Bruce Timm, Ralph McQuarrie, Drew Karpyshyn,
6-What got you into cosplay?
I really love all forms of art and creating.
Once I discovered cosplay in 2011, than figuring out that I could actually bring both together was so exciting! I love portraying my favorite characters and being to create that!
7-If you do more than one character which one is your favorite, and if you do only one do you have some ideas for more costumes?
Well, I have cosplayed different cosplays of Magneto! I started with first class Magneto, than I cosplayed Age Apocalypse Magneto, I am getting ready for Days of Future Past Magneto as well. I think I’ll always cosplay Magneto no matter what. It’s my favorite character to be, and it doesn’t matter to me that he’s a male character. I also love all of the Masters of the Universe characters! I created an Evil-Lin costume of all armor, but I’d like to create more variations, and I also cosplay Darth Zannah. I am still trying to master Darth Zannah’s character from Star Wars the Old Republic. She is from the Darth Bane trilogy and there’s not many picture references of her. I am always coming up with ideas for more costumes! I am currently making and working on a female Sub-Zero, Sorceress from Masters of the Universe, and A female Sauron from Lord of the Rings!
8-How long does it take for you to make a costume?
It depends on the character and the costume. I’d say. about half a month or longer depending on if it’s armor, or just materials.
9-Have you met any of the artists or writers where your costume is based on their work?
No, I haven’t. I’d love to though one day. I’d absolutely love to meet Drew Karpyshyn as his Star Wars character Darth Zannah, Stan Lee as a female Magneto, or Bruce Timm. Maybe one day lol.
10-Do you buy any toys, busts and etc. based on some of your favorite costumes?
Yes, I do actually! I have an Age Apocalypse Magneto bust limited edition, Magneto statue figuring, and a Magneto Age Apocalypse figuring in package. I have a Raven of DC statue that I have cosplayed. I also own a huge vintage Masters of the Universe collection. I own the majority of Classic figures, two different variations of Evil-Lin, and just so much more.
11-So do people know you dress up like a comic book hero on your free time?
Yes, they do. I don’t really care what people think. Most of my friends are supportive, love it with me, and some think I’m wacko and have lost it lol.
12-What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a convention?
I don’t really get embarrassed as I just laugh at myself. I sat in Sarah Douglass’s Q&A one time in 2013 at Texas Comic Con. I was dressed as Faora from Man of Steel, and she called me out in the audience. This was literally the week the movie came out. She was hilarious and asked my opinions of the new movie, which in all true respect I will always feel and told her “Ursa” will always hold a huge spot in my heart from Superman 2. The Richard Donner cut of course.
13-Do kids come up to you and think you are the real life character?
I haven’t experience that yet. The kids are the best part of a convention. They get so excited to see a female Magneto, and everyone loves my version of Harley Quinn with my huge Mallet.
14-What do you like to do when you’re not costuming, such as other hobbies?
I work a full time job. I often work out weekly as I love reading. I love reading all the time. I watch movies, shows. I still try to engage my mind in anything artistic wise. I am currently going to finish school to major in Psychology next semester in next fall.
15-Do you have a website or a Facebook? So people can contact you?
Would you like to be featured as the Cosplay Girl of the Month(NO anime, manga, role-playing games – just comics)? Then drop us a line! We would love to hear from you! We will also be posting a new Cosplay Girl on the first Monday of every month.
