One of the features we do here at Comic Impact is the monthly Cosplay Spotlight. The idea is to showcase people from every facet of this wonderful world of fandom we call, “Cosplay.” We believe in the fun of dressing up and want everyone who plays a part to be recognized.
What is your name?
How many years of experience do you have and what got you into cosplay?
3 Years. My goal in life is to be a cartoon…….like seriously….
What character/design are you most well known for?
Which is your favorite character/design?
Hmmmm that’s a hard choice but probably He-Man
Did you know how to sew/fabricate before you started cosplaying?
No I didn’t
How have your techniques improved over the years?
Just trial and error and putting more detail and effort in every time
How long does it usually take and what’s your typical process to complete a costume?
It really depends on the costume, some are actually quite quick while others take a lot longer
Is there a particular fabric/pattern/accessory that you consider your Achilles’ heel?
Sewing and I are not best friends Have you met any of the artists or writers where your costume is based on their work?
Yes, Tom Cook. He IS Mr. He-Man, he was the animator for the cartoon in the 80’s
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a convention?
This guy asked me to feed his wife a hot dog…….he was so excited he knocked over his kid while proceeding to tell me and his wife to put it in deeper and take it all in!! She was excited too lol
What is one of your best memories in cosplaying?
Having John Barrowman pull me onstage during his panel and then hanging out with him backstage
Do you read comics and if so, what are your favorite titles?
I am loving the New 52 line from DC. Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman. All the titles are really really great. I’m a big Marvel guy too, but right now DC has my attention
What is your favorite comic book character?
All time fav has got to be Superman but I love soooo many more too
Who are your inspirations?
The characters are my inspirations. Being characters like Superman/He-Man/Goku is how I like to live my life. I will also be a villain very soon too. But “just because I’m a bad guy doesn’t mean I’m a bad…guy”
Have you ever participated in any cosplay events or costumed fund raisers?
I started a program last year called Heroes For Health, we go to schools and teach kids about proper health and nutrition. We do a mini Bootcamp and speak about healthy eating with them. We of course are all dressed up and do pictures with them afterwards. I actually just finished hosting the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo’s costume contest last weekend too
What do you like to do when you’re not costuming, such as other hobbies?
Be a dad Watch cartoons, read comics, work out.
Do you have any advice for others wanting to get into cosplay?
Stop thinking about it and be about it, pick your character and just have a ton of fun
