HORROR on the 13th – May 2012 (Bernie Wrightson)

by Simon Daoudi· May 13, 2012· in Horror on the 13th· 0 comments tags: Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing
Welcome to an all-new horror on the 13th. This time around we are going to look at one of the living legends in horror comics. That’s right we are talking about the amazing Bernie Wrightson! A lot of young comic book readers may not know his name but his work has made a huge impact in the world of comics. Did you know that Bernie was one of the co-creators of one of our favorite comics here at ComicImpact? That’s right he, along with writer Len Wein, created the creature Swamp Thing in House of Secrets#92 (July 1971). That’s a good 40 years before Scott Snyder’s run and the start of the New 52. Not only did he co create Swamp Thing but he also drew the first, classic ten issues of the original Swamp Thing series!

Horror on the 13th: December 2011 (The New 52)

by bucky· December 13, 2011· in Horror on the 13th· 0 comments tags: Animal Man, DC Comics, IVampire, Jeff Lemire, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Scott Snyder, Swamp Thing, The New 52
And, we’re back! It’s written form again for Horror on the 13th! I can’t decide what I like better. Really, I just like mixing it up, because to me, talking about horror is talking about horror. In fact, I agree with that statement almost to a fault. I mean, I really do like and appreciate all horror, even the bad stuff. Horror taps into something very primal in all of us. It’s the fear of the unknown or the mysterious or the abnormal. Mostly, it’s trying to understand things that we, as humans, don’t understand or have no way of understanding. When it’s not that, it’s blood and guts and monsters! Personally, I think all those are the same, but that is always up for debate. Horror has debates! And theories! I love it.

Horror on the 13th: September 2011 (The Good,The Bad)

by bucky· September 11, 2011· in Horror on the 13th· 0 comments tags: Army of Darkness, Bernie Wrightson, Dynamite, Image Comics, Scott Snyder, Severed, Swamp Thing
I feel like I always start these the same way. I’m becoming set in my ways, and that is never a good thing. Don’t worry. I’m not going to pull what the DC Universe did and change your whole lives. However, I am going to do something a little different here at “Horror on the 13th.” I am going to talk a little bit about the horror industry, which I find to be a fascinating one. I think that it has the biggest gap between the good stuff and the bad stuff. Say what you want about horror, but the good stuff is terrifying and the bad stuff is unwatchable. Trust me, after the boyfriend and I watched about every conceivable movie on Instant Netflix, I think we found one that we were willing to recommend (two if we’re counting the one that he and I laughed at). The same thing goes for horror comics. It’s actually an incredibly difficult thing to list three really excellent horror comics for the month. It makes it harder when I need at least two more for “Did You Catch All That?” at the end of the month. All of that aside, I still […]
