Cosplay Girl of the Month: October 2012

One of the features we do here at Comic Impact is the cosplay girl (NO anime, manga, role-playing games just comics) of the month, that’s right hot girls dressing up like your favorite super- hero characters. This month we’re privileged to have Alex as the Cosplay Girl of the Month.

CosplayGirlofTheMonthOct2012A1-What is your name? Alex

2-How old are you?
20 (and still waiting for my Hogwarts acceptance letter)

3-Do you read comics and if so, what are your favorite titles?
I have lightly experimented with comics. I would really like to start getting into Nova. I’ve heard great things and love the character.

4-What is your favorite comic book character?
Captain America is my first pick. I love that he is relentlessly good. He was born a true hero. I believe what makes a hero is not the strength of his power (although Cap has awesome abilities!) but the strength of his heart.

5-Who are your favorite artists or writers?
I love Brian Bolland for his perfect linework! The art he created for Judge Dredd is definitely my favorite. The vintage lover in me also enjoys Matt Baker’s gorgeous Phantom Lady and romance work.

6-What got you into cosplay?
I’ve always enjoyed putting together costumes for Halloween. What really got me into cosplay was Harry Potter. I decided to attend a premiere as Bellatrix Lestrange and received a great reaction! A few people I met at the premiere told me all about cosplay. I was instantly hooked. A nerdtastic world where I feel at home? Count me in!

7-If you do more than one character which one is your favorite, and if you do only one do you have some ideas for more costumes?
Currently, my favorite costume is my Jessica Rabbit cosplay. Its not the greatest or most accurate but I love the reactions I get from people at cons. Its my least inexpensive cosplay and my most popular. I am currently working on Daenerys Targaryen’s Quarth gown from Game of Thrones (which I assume will become my favorite when I finish)

8-How long does it take for you to make a costume?
It always depends on the costume and whether or not my “secret identity” life is getting in the way! Some I’ve finished in a matter of hours, and some are months in preparation, collection of reference photos, and finding the perfect fabrics, wigs, and accessories.9-Have you met any of the artists or writers where your costume is based on their work? I havent! But my father is acquainted Rick Hilton. He showed him a photo of my Amber Sweet cosplay from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Rick sent the photo to Paris and she sent me a signed copy of the photo. It definitely changed my opinion of her!

10-Do you buy any toys, busts and etc. based on some of your favorite costumes?
Not as of yet! I do have a Jessica Rabbit collection of pins, lithographs, and Disney merchandise

CosplayGirlofTheMonthOct2012B11-So do people know you dress up like a comic book hero on your free time?
Oh yes! People often get tired of me talking about costume logistics. But everyone is incredibly supportive. I often recruit my mom (a much better seamstress than I am!) and fellow cosplayers for ideas and/or help with mini projects

12-What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a convention?
Last year at Comic con I was dressed as Amber Sweet (a rather sexy costume) and I was interviewed by playboy.com. They wanted a few photos and some pan-up shots. My dad was attending the con with me and was standing off to the side. After I left the playboy crew, he asked who they were. I paused and told him I’m going to be on playboy.com. He stopped for a moment, shook his head and laughed. “You make your father so proud”, he said. His voice was dripping in sarcasm.

13-Do kids come up to you and think you are the real life character?
When I cosplayed Katniss Everdeen at the Hunger Games premiere I was all gored up with cuts and scrapes. A few kids asked if “Katniss” was ok!

14-What do you like to do when you’re not costuming, such as other hobbies?
I am a nursing student in an accelerated BSRN program so I’m very busy with studying. Im into movies, reading, gaming (I’m a newbie), and Disneyland. I also enjoy random fact searching! If I want to know more about something, Im going to become an expert!

15-Do you have a website or a Facebook? So people can contact you?
Facebook and instagram are the best ways to contact me
