Review: All New X-Men #30

by bucky· August 19, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Sara Pichelli
For a while it seemed like Bendis was maneuvering young Cyclops and X-23 into a romance, but now young Cyclops is off gallivanting through space, and Angel has emerged as Laura’s budding love interest. It doesn’t have quite as much comedic potential, but it allows for some heartfelt interaction between the pair as they cut loose and Laura is actually allowed to experience some simple, positive human emotions for a change. Issue #30 follows on directly from the previous issue, opening with an insight into Angel and X-23’s

Review: All New X-Men #23

by bucky· February 18, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Stuart Immonen
Despite Jean Grey’s name being in the title of the arc, this issue shows that the story will be about more than just Jean Grey being put on “trial” for crimes she hasn’t committed yet. Most of this issue takes place aboard the Guardians’ ship, with the All-New X-Men on their first trip to space and encountering aliens. I found myself laughing a lot at Bobby and Rocket and also hoping we got a glimpse of a possible X, Gamora, and Angela butt kicking team up. Outside of the Guardians’ ship, we are given our first glimpse at Jean Grey’s imprisonment and her first encounters with Gladiator and Oracle of the Shi’ar.

Review: All New X-Men #22.Now

by bucky· January 28, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Stuart Immonen
This issue begins with poor Angel being stuck in the middle of the most uncomfortable lunch between Scott and Jean. A young Jean Grey has had a lot to deal with, besides the fact of being ripped out of their timeline with no way back. She had the hard revelation that her destiny is to die at a young age after being possessed by a cosmic power and destroying multiple worlds. Like most teenagers, she avoids the problem and Scott tries to come to her rescue. Meanwhile, Iceman is along the perimeter making snow angels when the school comes under attack by the Shi’ar. The X-Men try to fight off the attack, but the Shi’ar are able to easily capture Jean Grey and are off as fast as they arrived.

This column is pretty easy to figure out what it’s about. I will obviously be doing a top 5 countdown every week based on my stack of comics that I buy. I’ve been doing this since March of 2012 on my tumblr account ReadWatchedandSeen.tumblr.com and I enjoy doing it. With moving the column here to Comic Impact I hope to get more discussion going about comics and highlighting comics that I really like. So on tothis week’s top 5.

Review: All New X-Men #1

by bucky· November 16, 2012· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Stuart Immonen
When I first heard that this comic was happening and that the creative team behind it would be Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen my first thought was “FUCK YES!” There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that this comic was going to be awesome and that this creative was going to kill on this book. Bendis was written X-Men characters before in Avengers and the yearly crossover events that Marvel has done but he hasn’t written an X-Men book in the Marvel Universe before so I was excited to see where he would take these characters.
