Review: Uncanny X-Men #31

by bucky· February 23, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Kris Anka, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men
Uncanny X-Men #31 the culmination of “The Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier,” Original Sin, and AXIS. The arc as a whole has been entertaining enough, but the highlights for me were the smaller character moments. One of my favorite new mutants since Marvel kicked off its All-New imprints has been Eva Bell, and issue #31 does a great job putting her front and center.

Review: Guardians Of The Galaxy #21

by bucky· November 24, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Nick Bradshaw, Original Sin
After a three issue interlude for the Original Sin tie-in discussing the final fate of Richard Rider, Guardians has come back to the story with Venom once again. When last we saw him, Flash Thompson was having a bit of a problem with his symbiote, and this issue picks back up with Flash trying to address his situation.

Review: All New X-Men #30

by bucky· August 19, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Sara Pichelli
For a while it seemed like Bendis was maneuvering young Cyclops and X-23 into a romance, but now young Cyclops is off gallivanting through space, and Angel has emerged as Laura’s budding love interest. It doesn’t have quite as much comedic potential, but it allows for some heartfelt interaction between the pair as they cut loose and Laura is actually allowed to experience some simple, positive human emotions for a change. Issue #30 follows on directly from the previous issue, opening with an insight into Angel and X-23’s

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy #15

by bucky· June 03, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Cameron Stewart, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Nick Bradshaw, Walden Wong
In the last issue of Guardians of the Galaxy, we saw the team picked off by various enemies they’ve had over the years, and in this issue, we see where each of the Guardians have ended up. Rocket Raccoon is being oporated on by the Kree, overseen by the Supreme Intelligence who has a scientific interest in his rare species. Gamora is being beaten and questioned by the Badoon. Groot has been attacked and abandoned by The Brood.

Review: All New X-Men #23

by bucky· February 18, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Stuart Immonen
Despite Jean Grey’s name being in the title of the arc, this issue shows that the story will be about more than just Jean Grey being put on “trial” for crimes she hasn’t committed yet. Most of this issue takes place aboard the Guardians’ ship, with the All-New X-Men on their first trip to space and encountering aliens. I found myself laughing a lot at Bobby and Rocket and also hoping we got a glimpse of a possible X, Gamora, and Angela butt kicking team up. Outside of the Guardians’ ship, we are given our first glimpse at Jean Grey’s imprisonment and her first encounters with Gladiator and Oracle of the Shi’ar.

Review: All New X-Men #22.Now

by bucky· January 28, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Stuart Immonen
This issue begins with poor Angel being stuck in the middle of the most uncomfortable lunch between Scott and Jean. A young Jean Grey has had a lot to deal with, besides the fact of being ripped out of their timeline with no way back. She had the hard revelation that her destiny is to die at a young age after being possessed by a cosmic power and destroying multiple worlds. Like most teenagers, she avoids the problem and Scott tries to come to her rescue. Meanwhile, Iceman is along the perimeter making snow angels when the school comes under attack by the Shi’ar. The X-Men try to fight off the attack, but the Shi’ar are able to easily capture Jean Grey and are off as fast as they arrived.

Review: Uncanny X-Men #16

by bucky· January 21, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Chris Bachalo, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Uncanny X-Men
Magneto has always been one of my all time favorite, misunderstood “villains.” I’ve found myself aligning with his sensibilities cause while it would be nice to be as understanding and tolerant as Professor Xavier, the reality is, most people would act in the favor of their own kind, no matter what the means. This issue serves as a taste of what adventures may come for Magneto in his upcoming solo title.

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy #10

by bucky· January 07, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Kevin Maguire, Marvel, Marvel Comics
When Guardians started, it showed promise with a plot involving Star-Lord and his father, the King of Spartax. It seemed to go a little off topic with the addition of Angela and became less recognizable during the Infinity tie-ins. Now that Infinity is over, it is unclear what the new direction will be, and this issue certainly does little in the way of plot development in an overall arc. All this to say, this issue is a lot of fun.

Review: Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2

by bucky· December 17, 2013· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, David Marquez, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Ultimate Comics, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man
I was initially sad when I heard the news that Ultimate Comics Spider-Man was coming to an end. Whether or not Miles entering the 616 Universe is a good thing has yet to be seen, but the current run has been one of my favorites every month since the very first issue. C:UCSM is essentially the same title, but renumbered for the big event, so we’re still getting the same great writing and supporting cast that Bendis hooked fans with. If you loved Ultimate Spider-Man, then this is a must read.

Review: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #28

by bucky· October 29, 2013· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Ultimate Comics, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man
This is the final issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man before the big Cataclysm event. It’s hard to tell what the future holds for the entirety of the Ultimate universe, but I would find it hard to believe that this is the last we’d be seeing of Miles. Regardless, this was a well written conclusion to the Spider-Man No More arc where Spider-Man and his makeshift team of Spider-Woman, Cloak, Dagger, and Bombshell face off against the man responsible for bestowing their super powers, Roxxon and his crew. Miles Morales is by far my favorite Spidey to don the suit and it’s good to see him once again answer his calling, just a year after the tragic death of his mother, serving as his own “Uncle Ben moment.”

by Simon Daoudi· May 01, 2013· in Pick of the Week, Podcast, Reviews· 0 comments tags: Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Sara Pichelli, Ultimate Comics, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man
Join Simon and Antonio as they talk about the comics for the last week of April 2013! It was hard for Simon to find a pick because of all the amazing comics that came out but he went with Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #22 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. Antonio mentioned something really touching and beautiful in FF by Matt Fraction and Joe Quinones. Not a marvel fan well, guess what? The boys discuss Independent comics. They have a talk about East of West by the amazing Jonathan Hickman. Simon gets over excited about who did the artwork on last week’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue and Antonio tells you where this is the perfect time you should be reading Angel and Faith from Dark Horse.

I’m not going to go into too much detail this week but make sure to listen to the Pick of the Week Podcast this week as Simon, Sheldon, and I go more in depth on last week’s comics.
