Review: East of West #15

by bucky· September 16, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: East of West, Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta
Hickman and crew took a break for the month of August, but when we left off back in July, we witnessed the first action in the upcoming war with The Nation destroying The Tower of Armistice and then firing upon The Republic of Texas. The issue ended with Death heading to the Lair of the Beast to rescue his son. During the same time, the other Three Horsemen were already descending into the Lair to destroy the child. With everything that was set in place, we were left waiting with a hell of a cliffhanger.

Review: East of West #9

by bucky· February 04, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: East of West, Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta
The first volume of East of West (1-6) focused on world building and the latest issues have focused more on setting up who the key players are. Hickman tells his story without cramming too much plot into each issue and really takes his time. At times this can call for patience, which is risky in a world of short attention spans with content at the tips of one’s fingers. This book makes it’s own rules and doesn’t resemble any typical comic book. This issue further expands its world and adds more characters to its global conflict.

Review: East of West #7

by bucky· November 12, 2013· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: East of West, Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta
No surprise, Jonathan Hickman’s latest installment of his creator owned sci-fi Western was my favorite comic of the week. It’s easily in my top 3 current titles and the book I look forward to the most every month. My one complaint is that just as each issue gains momentum, it feels like it ends abruptly. There is still an air or mystique to the world of East of West and I can’t help wanting to know all I can about how this world became so very different from what we know today.

1. East of West #1 by Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin [Image] I feel like there is a God I need to pray and sacrifice a large animal to say thank you for being blessed with a brand new ongoing comic book from Jonathan Hickman. This comic has a lot of ideas that it has to get across to set up this alternate universe that it makes its setting. Though having read this book I don’t really know what it’s truly about yet, at least what the main story that follows the main character is. But let me paint and picture and try and figure out what the heck is going on. From the start of the issue we are shown the birth of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse on Earth with the exception of one. We don’t know who it is but we do find out by issues end, all we do end up knowing that the remainder of the horsemen are on a mission to kill the last horseman. Then we get a story of prophets and prophecies from after the Civil War and we jump into an alternative world, more specifically and alternative United […]
