by bucky· April 13, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Descender, Dustin Nguyen, Image Comics, Jeff Lemire
Jeff Lemire launched this sci-fi adventure last month with Image Comics, in what is a strong introduction to a galaxy that lays out the geography and politics for an entirely new and fascinating world that’s teetering on the brink of disaster. Moon-sized robots, called Harvesters, appear in the sky of one of the core planets of the United Galactic Council, causing billions to panic. When they disappear, their worlds get turned upside down. AI is criminalized, and robots everywhere are hunted down to prevent the tragedy ever again. At the center of it all is the abandoned child companion, Tim-21, pulling along his robot dog, Bandit, as we begin to learn what exactly these two have to do with everything.

Review: The Manhattan Projects: The Sun Beyond The Stars #1

by bucky· March 23, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Pitarra, The Manhattan Projects, The Manhattan Projects: The Sun Beyond The Stars
I have been hooked on this book from day one with the introduction to an alternate history version of my favorite Father of the A-Bomb. The series as a whole deals loosely around a lot of historical figures from the WWII era, namely those involved in or around The Manhattan Project, albeit a bit twisted.

Review: Rasputin #4

by bucky· February 03, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Alex Grecian, Image Comics, Rasputin, Riley Rossmo
Rasputin #1 debuted a few months ago at the end of October, and I decided to pick it up based on my love for Riley Rossmo’s art alone. I have to say, I absolutely loved it since the first issue. The funny thing is, the story has revealed so little of the overall arc by the end of each issue that I felt I needed to give it a few issues before I could write a comprehensive review. Often times a monthly series with a slow boil can lose the interest of its readers, but amazingly, that is part of the appeal of this book. Now that we’re a few issues in there’s even more to love as the pieces are starting to come together.

Review: The Manhattan Projects #25

by bucky· December 01, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Pitarra, The Manhattan Projects
Anyone who knows me knows my fondness of Manhattan Projects. One dead giveaway may be the tattoo I have on my arm of one of the book’s characters. It’s also one of the two Hickman Image titles that I recommend to tradition comic fans and new readers alike. The premise is a sci-fi alternate history of the namesake, complete with exaggerated takes on the real life counterparts from history. With each issue, things have been an exploration of how crazy you can take a book.

Review: East of West #15

by bucky· September 16, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: East of West, Image Comics, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta
Hickman and crew took a break for the month of August, but when we left off back in July, we witnessed the first action in the upcoming war with The Nation destroying The Tower of Armistice and then firing upon The Republic of Texas. The issue ended with Death heading to the Lair of the Beast to rescue his son. During the same time, the other Three Horsemen were already descending into the Lair to destroy the child. With everything that was set in place, we were left waiting with a hell of a cliffhanger.
