Sequential Sunday: Ted McKeever’s Meta 4 #1

Multi Eisner and Harvey Award nominee Ted McKeever is one of a select few comic artists whose talents, though perfectly suited for the sequential art form, are evocative enough of the “fine art” world to guarantee that he could find success and acclaim there as well. He, along with contemporaries like Kent Williams, George Pratt, Bill Sienkiewicz and John J. Muth have the creative flexibility and artistic chops to produce works for multiple outlets of the larger art world. As such, their comic work, particularly titles which are entirely conceived and created by themselves, can be very few and far in-between. This is why McKeever’s new series from Image and Shadowline Comics, Meta 4, arrives as such a welcome treat for comic art devotees.

Sequential Sunday: The Walking Dead

Nobody likes being the last person to show up at a party, and boy do I feel like I’m the last person to show up at this one. I consider myself an avid fan of all things horror since childhood, but I have to admit that until now I have not read the incredible Image comic The WalkingDead. But like a straggler at a blowout drinking fast to be on everyone else’s fuzzy wavelength, I am attempting to make up for lost time. In the last week or so I have read all ten of the currently available trade paperback collections of The Walking Dead, equaling the first sixty issues of the series, and am feeling completely overwhelmed and astounded to say the least.

It is  Image’s “Jersey Gods” a  ongoing series  with writer Glen Brunswick (“The Gray Area,” “Killing Girl”) and illustrator Dan McDaid .
