Review: Spider-Gwen #1

by bucky· March 02, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Jason Latour, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Robbi Rodriguez, Spider-Gwen
This rare situation was more than happenstance that no one could have predicted. The fans sounded off and the Marvel powers-that-be brought what readers wanted into fruition. When Gwen Stacy, as Spider-Woman, was first announced to appear in the Edge of Spider-Verse #2 one-shot, the growing excitement around the idea of this “new” character was undeniable. The internet was flooded with fan art and cosplayers clamored to have Gwen costumes ready for their next convention, even before her she had appeared in the actual Spider-Verse issues.

Review: Southern Bastards #4

by bucky· September 09, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Image Comics, Jason Aaron, Jason Latour, Southern Bastards
As, what one of this comic’s creators referred to me as, a Lumber-Jane Hippie, I will admit that at first I was intrigued and entertained by this title, but I did not ‘get’ it. I had no idea what fired pies were and I don’t drink sweet tea. So not only is this title teaching me something with each new issue, it’s helping me understand what the culture the South really is. There are more layers and complications than the caricatures that are portrayed on television and movies. The South is deep seeded in history, tradition, stubborn pride, unapologetic brutality, a language seemingly all its own, and some of the most colorful cast of realistic characters you can find. Every Southerner I know who has read this book have said they know people like the very ones written on this book.

Review: Wolverine and the X-Men #3

by bucky· April 21, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Jason Latour, Mahmud Asrar, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Wolverine and the X-Men
This series started by showing us glimpses of the future X-Men, mainly that Quire will become the Phoenix and Evan will fulfill his destiny as Apocalypse. Because of all this, the overzealous Phoenix Corporation has set out with time travelers to manipulate Quire into becoming who he is meant to be. Wolverine and Storm were previously beaten down and telepathically tortured by a future Askani warrior, but in this issue, Storm shows her strength and why she is known as a Goddess. Storm and Wolverine are able to track down Quire, but not before he has been manipulated by the Phoenix Corps’ young CEO to believe that all the mutant school can teach him is violence. It’s still unclear if the Phoenix Quire is because of Wolverine’s teachings or having left the school behind.

Antonio’s Top 5 Comics of the Week – 02.06.2013

by Antonio Cuneo· February 11, 2013· in Antonio’s Top 5· 0 comments tags: Alex Maleev, Andy DIggle, Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Slott, Edgar Delgado, Frank S’Armata, Icon, Image, Jason Latour, Jock, Jonathan Hickman, Marvel, New Avengers, Nic Klein, Rick Magyar, Ryan Stegman, Scarlet, Snapshot, Steve Epting, The Superior Spider-Man, Winter Soldier
1. Scarlet #6 by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev [Icon] Though this was my number one pick of the week I decided to write about it last because of a very personal connection I have to this book. I just wanted to put that out there and I also want to say that comic books, like any other medium are suppose to make you feel something, something besides enjoyment. I feel connected with characters, especially the ones that I really love that’s why I love Batman and Spider-Man so much. Anyway I’m going to talk about the comic first and what happens in the issue and then I’ll talk about my connection and why it means so much to me and why I felt the way I did. When Bendis launched this book last year with Alex Maleev I was excited because this book was very different from what Bendis was doing on his Marvel work at the time, and when this launched it was a breath of fresh air in his writing, not to say that he lost anything, I have and always will be a Bendis fan. But to have him work on creator owned stuff was exciting. And though this comic had big ideas and big […]
