Review: Ultimate Comics Cataclysm #0.1

I’ll be the first to admit, just about the only Ultimate Universe title I read is Spidey. I had started reading Ultimates and X-men, but ended up dropping those books a while ago. It’s a shame because I have heard some very good things about those books and with the looming rumors of the Ultimate Universe coming to an end, I can’t help but wonder if I played a small part in its untimely demise.

by bucky· February 08, 2012· in Pick of the Week, Podcast, Reviews· 0 comments tags: Doctor Who, IDW Publishing, Joshua Hale Fialkov
Knock, knock! Who’s there? Comic Impact POW podcast. No joke, that’s who’s there. Ok, that was bad, but know what’s not bad? Doctor Who by Joshua Hale Fialkov, and IDW publishing. Simon went with the good Doctor as his pick of the week for the first week in February.Sheldon was not happy with his pick, but he was more than happy to talk about Winter Soldier by Ed Brubaker. The boys get into it, as Simon also enjoyed Animal Man by Jeff Lemire. Sheldon did not like this one either.

Pick of the Week: January 25th 2012 – I,Vampire #5

by bucky· February 01, 2012· in Pick of the Week, Podcast, Reviews· 0 comments tags: Andrea Sorrentino, DC Comics, I Vampire, Joshua Hale Fialkov
It’s the week of January 25, 2012. Susan, Simon, and Sheldon get together again to talk comics and be awesome (well, Susan and Simon are). Sheldon gets into a grumpy mood, because he did not have the pick. Susan did! She went with I, Vampire #5 by Joshua Hale Fialkov. Susan likes vampires and strong female characters? Who knew! Simon talks of his love for creator owned books, as he gushes over Elephantmen and Bulletproof Coffin. Sheldon geeked out over the bromance in Secret Avengers, as he is familiar with the concept of hetero-man-love. Susan gets interrogated about the one book she doesn’t read, but possibly should. Listen. Enjoy. Read comics. Thanks again for taking time to deal with the madness that is ComicImpact’s POW! Pick of the Week podcast.

Did You Catch All That? – January 2012

Welcome to the first Did You Catch All That? of 2012! Susan thought she was rid of the boys in the new year, but she was sorely mistaken. Not only are Simon and Sheldon back, but she was joined by Matt Todd of “The Impact” and a very special guest (watch the video to see who it is). The best of the segments is back, including Susan dashing back and forth to bring you her favorite “Girl on Girls”. Simon’s tattoo may or may not make an appearance in Elephantmen 0, but he does talk about it in “On Shelves Now”. Sheldon is upset when he can’t talk about his issues and decides to play on his phone. I think I may have mentioned that we have a special guest! Ok, ok… I’ll give you a hint. He was recently on our POW! Pick of the Week Podcast, so he’s been hanging around quite a bit lately (and I know I hope he sticks around for a while). Take your guesses, but in the meantime, take a gander at the January 2012 episode of Did You Catch All That?.

Horror on the 13th: December 2011 (The New 52)

by bucky· December 13, 2011· in Horror on the 13th· 0 comments tags: Animal Man, DC Comics, IVampire, Jeff Lemire, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Scott Snyder, Swamp Thing, The New 52
And, we’re back! It’s written form again for Horror on the 13th! I can’t decide what I like better. Really, I just like mixing it up, because to me, talking about horror is talking about horror. In fact, I agree with that statement almost to a fault. I mean, I really do like and appreciate all horror, even the bad stuff. Horror taps into something very primal in all of us. It’s the fear of the unknown or the mysterious or the abnormal. Mostly, it’s trying to understand things that we, as humans, don’t understand or have no way of understanding. When it’s not that, it’s blood and guts and monsters! Personally, I think all those are the same, but that is always up for debate. Horror has debates! And theories! I love it.

Horror on the 13th: March 2011

Horror – the genre has been around since the movie industry started, because who doesn’t love a good scare, right? Guess what. There are also horror comics, and they have been around a long time, too. The problem with horror comics is the exact same problem that horror movies have. There are so many of them made all the time, and there is no way to tell whether or not they are going to be awesome or terrible. That is where I come in.
