Sup ‘net! We’re heading down the final stretch of Secret Wars tie-ins. And they wrap up, we’re seeing some serious disappointing endings and outings. (The disappointment of the week will surprise you. Especially coming from me!) But there is also a particularly green title that turned out to be different than what it originally seemed! One of my favorite comic creative teams takes 2 of the top spots. The #1 pick this week doesn’t fight fair in the least. And I’ll tell you about the best Image title you’re not checking out. Denver Comic Con 2015: Highlights

Another Denver Comic Con has come and gone, this time, over the Memorial Day weekend. In only its fourth year, DCC had 101,500 attendees, up from 86,500 last year. To help make this possible, they rented some 500,000 square feet of the Convention Center — an increase of 20,000 square feet over last year, and just shy of the entire building. Even with an increase of size and numbers, the flow of traffic was handled well and congestion was kept to a minimum in comparison to other comparable conventions I’ve been to. The staff is still some of the friendliest I’ve dealt with and never seemed to get frustrated dealing with all the attendees.

Review: Darth Vader #1

by bucky· February 16, 2015· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Darth Vader, Kieron Gillen, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Salvador Larroca, Star Wars, Star Wars Darth Vader
Marvel’s first Star Wars adventure in what will be a whole line of books set in the galaxy far, far away debuted last month to platinum sales and practically unanimous praise. Their second new series focuses on the well known and loved Dark Lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader. It has already been said that Gillen and Aaron plotted a lot of their series together, and you can really see the overlap in the storytelling.

Review: Iron Man #19

by bucky· December 10, 2013· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Iron Man, Joe Bennet, Kieron Gillen, Marvel, Marvel Comics
The Iron Metropolitan arc comes off the heels of The Secret Origins fallout and deals with how Tony now copes with finding out he has a brother and that he is not truly a Stark. But instead of falling into his old alcoholic and destructive patterns, Tony and new found brother, Arno, are on a mission to build a new city. They have decided on Mandarin City off the coast of China, formerly run by the Mandarin through the use of mind control. Before they can start rebuilding, they have a few remaining Triad thugs wielding surplus Mandarin tech to clear out. These past two issues have made it abundantly clear that, while Gillen is building upon Fraction’s run by incorporating Iron Man’s most well known villain, he’s doing it it a different way than one may expect. While I was never much of a fan of the eccentricities of the original Mandarin, I’m not quite sure how I feel yet about this new ring-wielding Mandarin corps.

Sequential Sunday: CBGB OMFUG

When writing about a site of recent historical significance, recent enough that those who were present as witnesses or participants to important events held there are likely still alive, you are not going to be able to please everyone. The beyond legendary New York music club CBGB is one such locale whose cultural impact on the musical spectrum of the last 35 years is so great it could never be given due justice in print or on film no matter how good the effort may be.
