Review: All New X-Men #30

by bucky· August 19, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: All New X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel, Marvel Comics, Sara Pichelli
For a while it seemed like Bendis was maneuvering young Cyclops and X-23 into a romance, but now young Cyclops is off gallivanting through space, and Angel has emerged as Laura’s budding love interest. It doesn’t have quite as much comedic potential, but it allows for some heartfelt interaction between the pair as they cut loose and Laura is actually allowed to experience some simple, positive human emotions for a change. Issue #30 follows on directly from the previous issue, opening with an insight into Angel and X-23’s

Review: Winter Soldier Bitter March #5

by bucky· July 15, 2014· in Reviews· 0 comments tags: Marvel, Marvel Comics, Rick Remender, Roland Boschi, Winter Soldier Bitter March
It’s the end of the mini-series, written by Rick Remender, to be a prequel companion piece to his ongoing Captain America run. Although the title has us believing that the Winter Soldier is our main character, it’s actually S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, Ran Shen, who’s the star of the story. But if you’ve been reading Captain America, then you know just what lies in store for our hero. I wasn’t very into this mini when it first started, but Remender and Roland Boschi give a very satisfying ending for this dark period spy piece.

Review: Original Sin #4

If you thought the end of the last issue was crazy, wait until you read this one. Compared to the first few issues of this arc, this one is structured less on action and more on the subtle nuances between the characters. It builds upon Bucky’s role from the cliffhanger, but never quite explains why he took the actions he did. But if you want to grab readers’ attention in a Marvel event, having Bucky Barnes do a

Comics ‘n Coffee: Marvel Premiere #28

As a company, Marvel Comics has gone by many monickers over the years, but none ever stuck out more in my mind than “The House of Ideas”. Many people argue that the 1990s attempts by Marvel to boost sales via Heroes Reborn and boost profits by self-distributing hurt the entire industry so much that they ruined their claim on good ideas, only offering BAD ones. But before all of Marvel’s big heroes teamed up to fight in the Secret Wars, and long before they worked together with their cosmic contemporaries to battle Thanos and his Infinity Gems, Marvel was proving itself worthy of that name on a regular basis. Every hero and villain had not yet met one another (and fought one another), and some teams were still in their growing pains or yet to be formed. Marvel Team-Up and Marvel Two-in-One were astounding readers by having two of the most popular heroes of the time, Spider-Man and The Thing, share adventures with everybody from Dominic Fortune and Frankenstein’s Monster to Iron Man and the Fantastic Four. The reason why these books were so popular was because the characters had never before shared the same page and fans got to […]
