Review: The Manhattan Projects: The Sun Beyond The Stars #1

I have been hooked on this book from day one with the introduction to an alternate history version of my favorite Father of the A-Bomb. The series as a whole deals loosely around a lot of historical figures from the WWII era, namely those involved in or around The Manhattan Project, albeit a bit twisted.

Anyone who knows me knows my fondness of Manhattan Projects. One dead giveaway may be the tattoo I have on my arm of one of the book’s characters. It’s also one of the two Hickman Image titles that I recommend to tradition comic fans and new readers alike. The premise is a sci-fi alternate history of the namesake, complete with exaggerated takes on the real life counterparts from history. With each issue, things have been an exploration of how crazy you can take a book.

Big surprise, The Manhattan Projects is my pick for the week. It’s tied with East of West for my favorite current title and I recommend both books to comic fans and non-comic readers alike. Whether or not you like super hero books, this is just a great, dynamic story. Seeing what the creative team comes up with every month has been a real treat.

Review: The Manhattan Projects #15

This is technically the second part of the Finite side story of Robert Oppenheimer. I consider it to be somewhat the third part, because the first issue of the series was titled, Infinite Oppenheimers, and served as an origin story of sorts for the character. For this issue, the regular art duties of Nick Pitarra have been subbed by artist, Ryan Browne. I could tell a slight difference at first, but it wasn’t a negative. It was a nice contrast to accompany this interlude that deviates from the main story, yet still has the definitive feel that the book is known for. Oppenheimer is by far my favorite character of the series and I find him so interesting that I would easily buy a series featuring only him.

Welcome to Antonio’s Top 5 Comics of the Week. It is an honor to have my column to be featured on the Comic Impact website, so thank you Simon and Sheldon. This column is pretty easy to figure out what it’s about. I will obviously be doing a top 5 countdown every week based on my stack of comics that I buy. I’ve been doing this since March of 2012 on my tumblr account ReadWatchedandSeen.tumblr.com and I enjoy doing it. With moving the column here to Comic Impact I hope to get more discussion going about comics and highlighting comics that I really like. So on tothis week’s top 5.
